This is a fantastic nine-day tour, led by Nick Garbutt, to teach
you all about photography in one of the Africa’s finest wildlife
destinations. You’ll have the opportunity to photograph the
Mara’s mammals and birds, alongside the watchful eye of Nick,
who will accompany you on safari during your five full days of tuition.
During the evenings, you’ll learn how to work
with your images and catalogue them on photo editing software –
providing you with the confidence to go on and take wonderful wildlife
shots, and manipulate them to show friends and colleagues.
Kenya Wildlife Photography Tour Detailed Itinerary
| Day 1: |
Masai Mara |
Camping |
Dinner |
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you’ll make the journey, of
approximately four hours, to the Masai Mara and Mara Plains
camp. Mara Plains opened in 2008. Located on the Ntiakatek
River, with views of the surrounding plains, the camp has
been designed to be as low impact as possible while still
providing a luxury safari experience – which fits our
ethos
for this trip perfectly. You’ll be accommodated in one
of six uniquely designed octagonal canvas rooms, which are
raised on decks and open to the outside on three sides. The
rooms have a dressing area, private terrace and en-suite facilities
with a double basin vanity unit, flush toilet and shower with
hot water 24 hours a day.
The large main area is perfect for your evening sessions on
photo editing and cataloguing software. Centred
around three connected, open-air tents, there are two lounges
where you can sit and work with Nick and the
images you’ve taken during the day. Afterwards, you
can head to the main dining room for dinner, before moving
to the campfire, listening to the resident lion prides begin
their night exploits and prepare for your next day of
tuition and exciting wildlife opportunities.

Masai Mara Photographic safaris |
Camping |
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner |
You will spend the next five days photographing
the
wildlife of the Masai Mara. Mara Plains Camp is located on
the northern border of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in the
Olare Orok Conservancy. Lions are always nearby, leopards
are regularly found to wander through the camp and
cheetahs have established territories on the savannah off
the main area. We’ve chosen the camp specifically because
as one of only three camps operating in the 15,000 acre conservancy,
so your photographic experiences will be enhanced; there’s
a lower vehicle density, fewer tourists and more time with
the wildlife to set-up your shots.
The Masai Mara is the finest wildlife sanctuary in Kenya.
Everything about this reserve is outstanding. The wildlife
is abundant and the gentle rolling grasslands ensure that
animals are never out of sight, perfect for photography.
Birdlife is also prolific with over 450 bird species having
been recorded, among them 57 species of birds of prey.
Your first sight of this natural wonderland is breathtaking.
Here great herds of elephant browse among the rich tree-studded
grasslands, with an occasional sighting of a solitary and
ill-tempered black rhino. Thomson’s and Grant’s
gazelle, topi, eland and many more species of plains mammals
offer a rich choice of food for the dominant predators -
lion, leopard and cheetah - that hunt in this pristine wilderness.
All of this amid an environment of acacia-dotted savannah,
rocky rivers, high escarpments and woodland, which provide
differing landscapes in which to inspire and challenge you
to capture
a stunning variety of photographs.
During the five days you’ll spend time out and about
capturing great wildlife shots, under the expert tuition of
Nick, before going back to the lodge and spending time learning
from him how to work with your images and
catalogue them on photo editing software – instruction
will be given on how to work to best effect with the
software packages. |
