Zambia is an African gem filled with fantastic wildlife and beautiful
scenery: vast savannahs, forests, undulating hills, lakes and water
falls. The Zambezi River supports an immense amount of bird and
wildlife as well as being the source of the magnificent Victoria
Falls. We travel down the river on a two day canoe safari, the perfect
way to experience the tranquility of this important river. We have
game drives in the remote Kafue National Park, home to a magnificent
array of game and bird life, and a walking safari by Victoria Falls.
A boat trip to Kafue Gorges and a sunset cruise on Lake Kariba ensure
that this is a fun and varied itinerary. There is also the opportunity
to enjoy the exhilarating activities on offer by the Falls or cross
the border to Botswana's impressive Chobe N.P.
Zambian Adventure Safari Detailed Itinerary
| Day 1: |
Zambezi River |
|
|
Following the arrival of the group flight, we leave
Lusaka for the banks of the Zambezi river, around a 3-hour
drive. We have time to relax this evening at our camp.
|
| Day 2: |
Zambezi River |
|
|
This morning we will meet our team who will
be accompanying us along the Zambezi in our 2 man Canadian
style canoes. Following an introduction and safety talk we
travel for an hour through local villages and across Kafue
River by ferry to our preferred start point. After setting
off, we soon feel a world away from daily life as the sights
and sounds of the wildlife that inhabits the waters' edge
surround us. Early starts may be necessary to avoid the heat
of the day and well earned lunch breaks are taken in the shade
on the river banks. The first night we camp on the banks of
the Zambezi and our guides prepare dinner. On the afternoon
of day 3 we return to the main camp by road. |
| Day 3: |
Zambezi River |
|
|
See day 2 for Itinerary |
| Day 4: |
Siansowa Peninsula |
|
|
Today we leave our canoes behind and travel
once again on dry land. We travel to the Siansowa peninsular
by Lake Kariba. We will set off early as we have a long journey
ahead. Our drive takes us up the escarpment from Chirundu
and we stop to shop in Mazabuka. Following our shop we head
down to the lake. (journey 450km.) This evening we take to
the water once again for an evening cruise on the lake. We
can expect to see game and bird life as the water's edge comes
to life as the sun sets. |
| Day 5: |
Siansowa Peninsula |
|
|
There are two activities included today: a
guided game walk in the mainland nature reserve and a game
cruise on the lake. The area is home to numerous bird species:
the Bat hawk, Snake eagle and the African Fish Eagle to name
but a few. There is also the chance to see game on foot, an
exhilarating experience. This afternoon there will also be
an optional visit to a crocodile farm.
|
| Day 6: |
Livingstone |
|
|
We travel to Livingstone today, stopping at
the small museum at Choma en route. There is time to visit
the ever-impressive Victoria Falls in the afternoon. |
| Day 7: |
Livingstone |
|
|
Today there is time to take advantage of the
many optional activities available around Livingstone and
on the Zambezi River including white water rafting, elephant
back safari or even a day trip across the border to Botswana's
Chobe National Park, home to an impressive amount of game.
|
| Day 8: |
Mosi o Tunya N.P |
|
|
Mosi O Tunya National Park stretches along
the Upper Zambezi for 12km. Being a relatively small park,
we should be able to see a variety of wildlife in a relatively
short period of time on our morning walking safari, including
giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, antelope and hopefully rhino.
We later travel to Mabula Ranch, visiting the Eland sanctuary
there. |
| Day 9: |
Kafue Gorges |
|
|
This morning we travel by road to the Kafue
River. On arrival we get in to our boat, gather our camping
equipment and then cruise down river to the beginning of Kafue
Gorge. The boat journey is relaxing and scenic. After time
at the gorge we head to our campsite on the southern bank.
The facilities at our camp are basic but it's a great site,
incredibly quiet with some amazing birdlife. |
| Day 10: |
Lusaka |
|
|
After packing up our camp, there is time for
an optional walk. We then travel in our overland vehicle to
Lusaka. We will have some free time in Lusaka to shop or relax.
|
| Day 11: |
Kafue N.P |
|
|
Early start to Kafue N.P.; afternoon game drive.
|
| Day 12: |
Kafue N.P |
|
|
We depart Lusaka early in the morning for Kafue
National Park, Zambia’s oldest and largest National
Park. The infrastructure is still developing in the park,
offering a real slice of African wilderness. It will take
around 3 ½ hours to reach the park gates. On entering
the park we game drive to our campsite on the banks of the
Lufupa River. This evening we will go on a night drive by
4WD. The following day we will go on a morning game drive
and the afternoon will be kept free for an optional boat trip
on the river and there is a lovely deck to sit and watch the
river and birdlife. |
| Day 13: |
Lusaka |
|
|
Today we return to the capital and spend the
night at our camp just south of Lusaka, situated on a private
game farm. |
| Day 14: |
